The Applied Research Center is currently seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team of professionals.

Job Summary
The Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist the principle investigator in completing their research objectives as related to the scope of work. The Ph.D. must have be conferred within one to five years prior to employment. This assignment is for a one-year period, it is grant funded, and this appointment may be renewed at management's discretion based on excellent work performance and funding availability.

Primary Job Duties

  • Conducts applied research in specialized robotics and remote systems areas at Florida International University Applied Research Center (ARC) and assist in supervising and monitoring student assistants.
  • Develop, design, and conduct research on mechatronics and robotics projects or experiments in line with planning, reviewing progress, evaluating results, and producing scientific presentations and reports;
  • Design upper limb exoskeleton devices to assist glove box operation;
  • Prototype mechatronic systems using Solid Works, and Eagle CAD;
  • Integrate, simulate, and program controls using: MATLAB and Simulink, Robotic Operational Systems (ROS2), and embedded Linux and C++;
  • Build bench scale mock-ups;
  • Present and demonstrate technologies to the public;
  • Annually publish research results in at least one peer-reviewed journal and present research findings annually at national and international research conferences to enhance the scientific stature of the FIU Applied Research Center Applied Robotics Group;
  • Formulate research methods and provide suggestions for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommend and implement solutions, and collaborate in the development of new and current ARC research projects;
  • Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explain and demonstrate technologies and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations, and outcomes.
  • Coordinate data collection, screening, and data verification and validation;
  • Conduct data analysis, interpretation, and implementation of research datasets and methodologies;
  • Assist in overseeing project performance, supervising, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate research Assistants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in related field;
  • Experience in using Mathlab, Solidworks, Eagle CAD; Simulink, Robotic Operational Systems (ROS2), and embedded Linux and C++;
  • Demonstrated track record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific literature
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in writing one or more proposals for research funding;
  • Proficiency in writing and verbal skills to communicate research to colleagues and others;
  • Good interpersonal skills and collaborate with colleagues and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to travel to conferences and present findings
