Job Information

The Infant Development Lab (PI: Lorraine Bahrick; infantlab.fiu.edu) in the Department of Psychology at Florida International University invites applications for a 2-3 year NIH-funded postdoc in infant/child perceptual/cognitive/social development to start as soon as possible or by January 2023. We seek an applicant with strong technical, methodological, and statistical skills with an interest in early development. The post-doc will work with the P.I., Dr. Lorraine Bahrick, and her lab team, to coordinate and participate in 2 NIH-funded research projects. One is a multisite project assessing individual differences in attention and intersensory processing and relations with social and language outcomes. Findings are designed to serve as a basis for identifying typical developmental trajectories with implications for identifying atypical trajectories. The project will result in a large aggregate database generated by and shared across 13 research labs via Databrary. The other is a longitudinal study assessing attention and intersensory processing as predictors of language, social, and school readiness outcomes across 3 months through 6 years of age. Theoretical emphasis is on an ecological/developmental systems perspective. The post-doc will have ample opportunity for exploring both databases, participating in and generating collaborative research projects, developing an independent research program, and receiving training in manuscript writing and grantsmanship.
Requirements: Excellent computer and technical skills including developing and managing large databases; basic programming skills; familiarity with MATLAB, SPSS, R, and/or Mplus; familiarity with eye-tracking platforms; advanced statistical skills; excellent writing and organizational skills; supervisory experience. Familiarity with early social, cognitive, and language assessments, and habituation procedures helpful. FIU is a top-tier research institution and public university serving over 56,000 students, located in Miami, Florida, a vibrant, multicultural, multiethnic community. In 2022, Florida International University was ranked No. 3 in the nation by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for research funding in psychology. Salary is competitive and includes benefits. E-mail inquiries to Dr. Lorraine E. Bahrick, bahrick@fiu.edu. Send vita, statement of research interests, fit with position, and names of potential referees. FIU is an EO/EA employer.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to Job Opening ID 528468 at facultycareers.fiu.edu and attach a cover letter and curriculum vitae as individual attachments. Candidates will be requested to provide names and contact information for at least three (3) references who will be contacted as determined by the search committee. To receive full consideration, applications and required materials should be received by January 15, 2023, and the position will stay open until filled.
