Under the direct supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy, performs routine, intermediate and advanced level polysomnographic testing and provides analysis of subsequent data according to the Sleep Center Policy's & Procedures.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Polysomnography Technician performs routine, intermediate and advanced level polysomnographic testing and provides analysis of subsequent data according to policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.
Graduate of a CoARC accredited School of Respiratory Care with an Associates of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy.
2.
RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) or CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist)
Complete a Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) Program & obtain certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist within 2 years of employment.
3.
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
1.
One (1) year of Polysomnographic experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.
Current certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. (RPSGT)
2.
Clinical Sleep Educator Certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
EXPERIENCE:
1.
One (1) year of Sleep Study scoring experience.

1.
Performs high-quality polysomnograms and C-PAP Titration studies.
2.
Performs high-quality multiple sleep latency testing.
3.
Utilizes proper testing montages to detect abnormal sleep architecture, EEG/EKG abnormalities, abnormal respiratory events, and low oximetry.
4.
Performs artifact-free polysomnograms.
5.
Performs equipment pre- and post-testing including impedance check and calibrations and records in patient's permanent record.
6.
Obtains consent for Video Taping, Filming and/or Photography.
7.
Obtains consent for Polysomnogram.
8.
Completes Pre- and Post-sleep Questionnaires.
9.
Completes patient registration.
10.
Records keeping.
11.
Document history of the patient's sleep problems and documentation for each procedure.
12.
Detect sleep hygiene problems and record appropriately.
13.
Charts clinical notes for interpretation by physician regarding action taken and any comfort measures provided during sleep testing.
14.
Records an event log with chronological documentation of patient interaction during sleep testing.
15.
Confirms that a follow-up appointment has been scheduled.
16.
Labels, files, and stores medical data and test results.
17.
Can recognize all sleep states.
18.
Can recognize sleep efficiency.
19.
Can recognize central apneas.
20.
Can recognize obstructive apneas with snoring.

The Sleep Lab is a normal office environment with cramped work space and possible machinery vibrations.
