POSITION SUMMARY: Performs routine and advanced Respiratory Care procedures according to established standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care, or applicable state, as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist - Certified (LRTC). 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Certified pulmonary function technologist (CPFT) by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Performs basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by order of the physician. 2. Performs emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures 3. Assembles, checks, and corrects malfunctions and performs quality controls on Respiratory Care equipment. 4. Initiates, maintains, and discontinues mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. 5. Performs and analyzes arterial blood gas samples adhering to standards of accrediting agencies (CAP, Joint Commission). 6. Performs diagnostic procedures including bronchoscopies, pulse oximetry, and pH trend studies. 7. Communicates appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care. 8. Provides assistance with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team. 9. Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities. 10. Maintains clinical and professional competency based upon established standards of practice. 11. Demonstrates the ability to perform all relevant departmental competencies. 12.
