Air Quality Modeler

Novato, CA, or flexible location in the USA

Ramboll is seeking an experienced Air Quality Modeler to join the firm. This position is located in Novato, California in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are considering candidates working outside California as well. We develop the state-of-the-science Comprehensive Air Quality Model with extensions (CAMx) that is widely used around the world. The office also has deep expertise in preparing emission inventories and applying a variety of emission, meteorological, and air quality models. You will join our Environment & Health Division

As our new Air Quality Modeler, you will be part of the Air Sciences Group under Ramboll's Environment & Health Division. This group consists of people who are passionate about assisting Ramboll's clients with their most challenging problems related to air quality, climate change, and sustainability. The Air Sciences Group consults with clients across various governments and various industries around the world on a range of topics, including but not limited to air quality modeling, emissions estimation, environmental and human health risk assessment, climate change, climate adaptation/resiliency, sustainability initiatives, permitting, and compliance.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:



  • Conducting scientific investigations using advanced air quality and meteorological models and interpreting modeling results
  • Performing statistical and geospatial analyses of emissions and air quality data
  • Developing new air quality modeling and analysis tools
  • Preparing reports and communicating results to clients
  • Publishing and presenting findings to peers and stakeholders
  • Actively participating in a growing network of Ramboll sustainability practitioners that span our services across environment/health, energy, and water

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to air quality and/or meteorological modeling such as atmospheric science, engineering, meteorology, chemistry or physics
  • At least 2 years of air quality or related experience (work done as a graduate student can count toward this requirement)
  • Proven experience with air quality/meteorological models such as CAMx, CMAQ, GEOS-Chem, and WRF, or climate models
  • Computer programming experience, such as scientific programming and database programming
  • Strong computing skills including high level use of spreadsheets and word processing
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, problem-solving and organization skills
  • Experience with the SMOKE emission processor is an advantage
