DESCRIPTION Puget Sound Educational Service District seeks a Director of School Finance to provide fiscal and reporting support, monitoring, and assistance in maintaining district’s financial health indicators and directing corrective action plans; serves as a resource to school districts to analyze and monitor legislative changes, provide revenue and expenditure forecast support, leading and coordinating fiscal and technical support to school districts, provide financial information, guidance, and recommendations to the Superintendent, Governing Boards, school districts and/or other regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions
- Manages contracts with districts to provide fiscal support for the purpose of providing direct business management services and utilizing strategies to meet the needs of the districts.
- Analyze and create training models and programs for the purpose of supporting district staff to assist current and future needs.
- Analyzes a wide variety of financial information for the purpose of identifying irregularities, recommending controls, and conforming to established financial practices and regulatory requirements.
- Assists external agency personnel (e.g., school districts, other ESDs, regulatory agency personnel, etc.) for the purpose of serving as liaison for the district in providing requested information and general support to the performance of their duties.
- Compiles statistical and financial data for the purpose of providing third-party reporting and providing financial summaries to other personnel, and/or ensuring compliance with established regulations.
- Develops reporting processes and procedure for the purpose of maintaining the efficient flow of financial processes.
- Facilitates meetings that may frequently involve a range of issues (e.g., financial procedures, regulatory requirements, community involvement, actions involving outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations, and/or serving as the district representative.

- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic fiscal information for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g., reports for the Board, Superintendent, school districts, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
- Provides technical expertise and direction to school districts and agency administration (e.g., school district business managers, Superintendent, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information and ensuring compliance with established policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Reconciles fiscal information for the purpose of verifying reasonability and complying with accounting practices.
- Provides recommendations on a range of issues (e.g., financial procedures, regulatory requirements, actions involving outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions, supporting member school districts, and serving as the district representative.
- Recommends accounting procedures for the purpose of providing internal financial controls to member school districts and ensuring quality control and compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principal (GAAP).
- Researches a variety of topics and GASB updates for the purpose of evaluating compliance requirements and potential implications on member school districts.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquires (e.g., accounting guidelines, expenditure status, grant guidelines, etc.), of member district personnel, other professional organizations for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information, and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Supervises personnel (e.g., provide coaching and consultation on technical issues, adaptive challenges, personnel matters, strategic opportunities, career goals, professional development, job performance, etc.) for the purpose of advancing the development of effective leaders and high performing teams and achieving agency and departmental objectives.

- Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting or job-related field AND job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- 5 years of school district finance/accounting/budgeting experience including knowledge of Washington State School District Accounting Manual rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Washington State RCW’s related to school finance
- Senior level supervisory/management experience
- Experience in training models for adult learning
- Proficiency in gathering and interpreting fiscal data
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets and/or databases
- Knowledge of GAAP Principles
