This position demands a highly articulate and strategic individual with exceptional writing skills and a keen understanding of the Navy's strategic communication objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to convey complex ideas in clear, compelling language, with a deep commitment to supporting the Navy's mission through powerful and persuasive speechwriting. Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare statements, press releases, long-form articles, public affairs guidance, communication plans, briefing cards and like material as required and in accordance with Navy and Associated Press (AP) Style guidance.
Provide speechwriting support for NAVSEA Command Leadership (e.g. conferences, symposiums, testimony, ceremonies, etc.).
Conduct media monitoring and analysis across communication channels.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Art / Science degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or English.
Ten or more years' experience as a speechwriter. Preferred military speechwriter (Echelon I or II level preferred) as demonstrated in applicant's portfolio / writing samples.
Required proficiency in MS Word/PowerPoint/ Excel.
Demonstrated experience writing speeches for senior defense and/or industry leaders.
Ability to work directly with senior leaders to develop themes and messaging that aligns to and complements their speaking style.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including demonstrated ability to produce concise and properly edited products that clearly and logically convey complex information and ideas.
Strong knowledge of Navy and Defense issues and current events
Working knowledge of naval history, heritage and traditions
Experience with change management communications, planning and implementing of strategic communications strategies, Crisis Communications, Stakeholder, relationship management and briefing development.
Candidate will be required to simplify and clarify complex technical, Legal, Legislative, Regulatory and statistical information into simple language.
Be familiar with Navy mission, organization and terminology, and have a working knowledge of military acquisition, Contracting and naval engineering.
Demonstrated knowledge of grammar, writing, Editing and proofreading.
Microsoft certificate preferred.
