The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Fashion Business Management department of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology.

The Fashion Institute of Technology, a part of the State University of New York, has been a leader in career education in art, design, business, and technology for over 70 years. With a curriculum that provides a singular blend of hands-on, practical experience, classroom study, and a firm grounding in the liberal arts, FIT offers a wide range of outstanding programs that are relevant to today's rapidly changing industries. An education with FIT's Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology (Baker School of Business and Technology) prepares students for careers in the fashion industry and related creative fields. The curriculum and faculty integrate industry and academic expertise in markets serving the fashion industry, business environments ranging from local to global contexts, and contemporary and future-focused industry technologies. The Baker School of Business and Technology educates students that become graduates with skill sets and industry knowledge that are immediately valuable to employers, empowering our alumni to forge successful, satisfying careers as rising professionals in the fashion and related creative fields.

Seven of the ten Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

The Fashion Business Management department offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and a Bachelor of Science (BS). Emphasizing teamwork, cultural awareness, and essential communication and technology skills, the program prepares students for today's global fashion industry.

Students gain a global perspective through both academic and experiential learning. The curriculum fosters the development of creative and analytical business skills needed for success in various fashion-related careers, including retail buying planning and allocation, product development, retail and wholesale management, data analytics, and multi-channel merchandising.

The Fashion Business Management program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Job Description:

The Baker School of Business and Technology seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member for the Fashion Business Management department. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and business acumen in the fashion and retail sectors, teaching the program's five key pillars of the program: leadership, product, merchandising, planning/analytics, and strategy.

Candidates should have a robust background in fashion business management and be able to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, strategies, and practices in the field. The ideal candidate should have experience in the area(s) of fashion analytics, planning and digital technology, merchandising strategies, brand development, and product management. The candidate should be up-to-date with industry advancements and emerging trends, and a passion for empowering students in their academic and professional pursuits while embracing academic scholarship.

Primary responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures that promote active learning and encourage critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills. The new faculty member will be expected to develop and expand the curriculum in the areas of fashion analytics, planning and digital technology, merchandising strategies, brand development, and product development.

Additional responsibilities include advising students, mentoring, facilitating internships, conducting seminars, and participating in industry functions. The new faculty member will serve on department, school, and college-wide committees, support accreditation, and participate in administrative activities as required.

  • Integrate interdisciplinary learning into the curriculum.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technology, incorporating them into the curriculum.
  • Embrace new pedagogy forms, including online teaching, blended classes, workshops, flipped classrooms, and experiential learning.

  • Maintain a network of alumni and industry experts for internships, mentors, curriculum development, guest speaking, and graduate placement.

Technology



  • Utilize course management systems and multimedia technology in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate effective use of industry-specific technology and data for teaching, including buying, planning, product management software, and data analytics technology.
  • Use appropriate technology to communicate with and engage students outside the classroom.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Candidates must have an MBA or master's degree in a field related to the fashion industry, or enrolled in a master's degree program, in progress, to completion.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the fashion retail industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • College-level teaching or instructional experience.
  • Global expertise in the fashion business industry.

Salary

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules pg. 72.

Instructor: $65,207.33 - $75,971.53

Assistant Professor: $75,917.54 - $111,883.11

Associate Professor: $88,858.05 -133,780.10

Professor: $108,354.52 - $163,053.55

The College reserves the right to select one or more candidates after having been duly reviewed and presented to the President in conformance with the provisions of Article 15 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
