Summary:

Under the general supervision, but according to established policies and procedures, receives, verifies, stores, picks and maintains inventory of material, supplies and/or equipment for distribution to Hospital departments. Maintains related inventory records and may participate in the ordering process.


Responsibilities:

According to the area assigned, performs any combination of the following duties:

May unload bulk supplies from loading dock using hand and electric lift trucks.

Receives materials and verifies contents by reviewing against packing slips, receiving slips, purchase orders, etc.

Unpacks supplies and visually checks contents for damaged items. May break down bulk quantities into requisition sizes.

Stores supplies in proper area and according to established systems, with particular attention to items having specific storage (e.g. refrigeration) or security requirements.

Responsible for cleaning and straightening the assigned stockroom area, including stock rotation, restocking shelves, removing past expiration dated supply items on a daily basis

and giving them to supervisors.

Notifies supervisor and assists with the return of items no longer usable.

Picks replenishment orders for all Lifespan affiliates using pick ticket information to include item number, product description, product code, location, order quantity and unit of measure. Advises Supervisors of out-of-stock orders.

Responds to call from patient care units and other hospital departments for supplies, records data on appropriate forms, and delivers supplies.

Receives and fills requests for materials by authorized personnel, following established procedures. Identifies, counts and may weigh items. May deliver completed orders to other areas of the Department, or the Hospital.

Continuously monitors consumption of supplies against stock on hand and anticipated shipments. May recommend change in timing of special and standing orders to assure adequate supply of all necessary items. May assist supervisor in preparing orders.

May interact with vendors to check on or expedite delivery of orders, or regarding the return of merchandise. May interact with Hospital accounting personnel regarding payment and/or cancellation of orders.

Maintains logs of materials received, on-hand and issued, as well as related files of purchase orders, charge information, vendor information, etc.

Maintains established hospital/departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control requirements.

Performs other related duties such as answering telephone and pager, relaying messages, conducting stock audits and reconciliations, cleaning work area and photocopying, etc. as required.
Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

A level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of a High School diploma may be required.

Must be able to operate electric lift trucks, pallet jacks and hand trucks.

The ability to read and write English and to perform basic arithmetic computations to verify shipments, complete charge information, and perform stock reconciliation.

Clerical ability to maintain files.

Interpersonal skills to exchange information with patient care and other service providers regarding their supply needs.

Depending upon department assigned, familiarization with appropriate technical terminology may be required.

Must become familiar with all RIH/HCH delivery locations.

EXPERIENCE:

One to three months of related or on-the-job work experience is required to become familiar with terminology, supplies and storage procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Considerable standing, walking, lifting and pushing in order to unload, store and distribute materials.

Exposed to dust and dirt from packaging.

May be exposed to cold and heat when unloading bulk supplies on loading dock.

May handle flammable and/or controlled substances.

Care and alertness are required in safely storing inventory supplies.
