The Electrical Engineer is tasked with working on the next generation of TA Instruments rotational rheometer products for research and material development. Support development needs for new products and modified designs from concept through production. Primarily responsible for designing new electronics including electrical boards and embedded code to support a new rheometer electronics system architecture. Update older boards which need to be redesigned due to obsolescence issues that inevitably arise as technology moves on, and our transition to a new CAD design system. Conduct electronic board-level schematic design and layout of rheological instrumentation and accessories from proof of concept stage to hand over to production. Follow the design requirements of the materials testing market strategy at TA Instruments. Work through problems to provide solutions to a wide range of technical problems involving the design, development, and testing of company produced scientific instrumentation. Responsible for testing new board designs and writing software code to test new operating specifications. This also applies to new developments and shipping products, for example, recoding the autoloader for the rubber rheometer. Develop and guide feasibility studies and testing of new and modified designs. Use simulation software to design tests programs for validating the new electronics that have been prototyped. Write code to modify behavior of current shipping products to overcome procedural or quality issues in the field to address customer needs. Evaluate a variety of data, conduct tests, and evaluate results. Apply judgement and presentation of test data during a phased and gated development process, used in assessing whether to continue with current design path or change direction and make a better investment of time and money. Conduct design reviews as a technical lead is part of this function. Demonstrate sound engineering and laboratory practices that comply with ISO procedures. Observe safe work practices in compliance with company procedures during test phase of projects which is a companywide principle. This includes initial maintenance of documentation on new designs. Required Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or foreign degree equivalent). Required Experience: At least 1 year of experience in hardware and software design, including the design and simulation of sensor analog/digital circuits, power electronics, advanced motion control systems, micro-controller programming, register-transfer level (RTL) FPGA design, and programming/design with C, verilog and VHDL. Special Requirements: Demonstrated ability in programming and development of embedded systems with micro-controllers and FPGAs as well as familiarity with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Linux, and C-OS, programming/design with C, Verilog and VHDL and design and application programming of networks; Demonstrated ability in PCB design and best practices for Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) using Altium; Demonstrated ability in electrical design, specifically digital and analog experience, including interfacing ADCs, digital and analog sensors, power electronics, motor drive, Electric Drivetrain Technology and battery management systems; Demonstrated ability in analysis and simulation of electrical/digital and control systems using Matlab/Simulink, LTSpice/Tina, Quartus/Modelsim; Demonstrated ability in Finite Element Analysis of magnetic structures and Electro-mechanical systems using Ansys. Ability may be gained during graduate program (coursework, projects, internships). 9-5, M-F, $97,328/year. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
