In the proposal phase of a program, the Test Engineer will research the requirements and estimate the cost to test the product. In the early stage of a program, the Test Engineer will define the test parameters and methods using the customer's requirement specification. Then, you will generate the test plan and the test procedures and work with the customer to obtain approval of these documents. The Test Engineer will also ensure that all necessary test tooling and equipment are available or fabricated. As necessary, the Test Engineer will seek assistance from Senior Test Engineers and/or the Testlab Manager. When the product is in test, you will be responsible for ensuring that the test is completed on time and within budget. In order to do this, you will generate standard hours and schedule for the test. You must monitor and track the progress of testing through significant phases of test. You will also review and verify test data and analyze results as necessary. The Test Engineer will also take the lead in troubleshooting and fact-finding test discrepancies as they arise. The Test Engineer must schedule work and help direct the Test Engineer/Conductors and Technicians to ensure those tasks are completed efficiently. As necessary, or as directed by the Testlab Manager (or Supervisor), you will be required to perform production testing in an effort to maintain test schedules. Therefore you should have excellent communication and organizational skills, proficiency in technical writing, good analytical skills, and some experience with CAD and design. You should also be a quick learner, self-motivated, work well in a team environment, multi-task, and take ownership of a task with minimal supervision. Additionally, you should be comfortable in a leadership/supervisory position and be skilled in dealing with others in a professional and diplomatic manner. In all phases of the job, the Test Engineer is governed by technical, cost, and schedule requirements and must be able to work under pressure with minimum error and maximum efficiency.
