POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for leading prototype and production part fabrication efforts utilizing Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining equipment, corresponding Computer Aided Machining (CAM) packages, and appropriate inspection methods for efficient developmental paths resulting in strategies of producing parts within tolerance at optimal cycle times. The incumbent will leverage both personal and staff knowledge, capabilities, and capacity to complete objectives in a timely manner. This position is responsible for generating procedures for operations within the machine shop and for providing training and guidance to shop personnel. The position will propose possible technical improvements that could advance capability and/or capacity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead the development of machined part fabrication, including; material, tooling, programming, simulation, layout, setup, execution and inspection.

* Review and monitor individual part machining processes, proposing refinements where continuity, efficiencies, ergonomics and/or quality can be improved.

* Lead CAM program development and instruct standard practices to appropriate shop personnel.

* Interpret/analyze engineering drawings and specification to ensure proper fabrication of products, provide guidance to other shop personnel as needed.

* Monitor and guide CNC operators ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.

* Leverage quick change solutions such as foundation systems to create efficient and accurate setups.

* Establish speed and feed rates that optimize the machining process.

* Fabricate, repair, and assemble plastic/metal parts with the operation of mechanical equipment.

* Oversee the use of standard hand and power tools to assemble parts into subassemblies and products.

* Confirm that machines are maintained in proper working order, when needed work with vendors to troubleshoot or upgrade the equipment.

* Ensure parts conform to supplied drawings or requirements. Perform inspection on parts and ensure parts produced meet specifications.

* Train and conform to company procedures, including maintaining and drafting machine shop operational procedures and practices.

* Draft and maintain machine shop procedures.

* Train personnel in the operation of machine shop equipment and tools.

* Ensure proper tooling and materials are available and used for part fabrication.

* Oversee preventative maintenance of shop machines and tools. Perform maintenance as needed.

* Specific duties may vary depending upon department requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

* Associate's degree in a technical discipline or a vocational/technical school degree, or equivalent experience.

* Minimum of twelve years machining experience required

* Minimum of ten years CNC programming experience utilizing CAM required

* Minimum of five years inspection equipment required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Expertise in operating the following machine shop equipment:

o CNC Horizontal and Vertical Mill

o Swiss Lathe

o Water jet

o Drill Press

o Band saw

o Table saw

o Media blasting

o Pedestal grinder

* Ability to lead, train, guide others to understand and accomplish tasks/duties/responsibilities

* Expertise in operation of machinery that perform threading, deburring, lapping, polishing, etc.

* Understand and follow safety precautions and ensure compliance with company safety policies.

* Ability to interpret basic to complex engineering drawings and requirements.

* Knowledge of the operation and programming of measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, CNC vision systems, and CMM.

* Familiar with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.

* Strong understanding of material consistencies of plastic and metal parts.

* Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.

* Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills

o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact schedules, accuracy and reliability of data, and product quality

* Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

* Thorough knowledge of with CAD/CAM software (Esprit and Mastercam).

* Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

* A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual will occasionally be required to walk; use hands and arms to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. This position requires moving/lifting items up to 50lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed in a traditional production environment and/or light-manufacturing facility.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $76,100 to $113,200. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
