What You Will Do: The Learning Support Specialist (Mathematics / Computer Science & Information Systems) plays a critical role in supporting NLU students by encouraging students to take an active role in their education and empowering them to become independent, lifelong learners. The primary responsibility is to tutor students in the fundamental skills of math, statistics, accounting, computer science & information systems, and other academic skills on the Chicago campus and online, ideally with some flexibility to work one day a week at the Wheeling campus. Tutoring occurs through one-on-one appointments and in small workshops utilizing various modes, including in-person, by phone, as well as via email and video conferencing software. The Learning Support Specialist (Math/CSIS) will help monitor and communicate the progress of students, particularly those who are identified as below-level in their math and computer science skills, reach out to at-risk students, and accurately track student tutoring usage. Responsibilities also include scheduled hours in Study Tables as needed and promoting Study Tables and Learning Support/CSIS offerings with faculty and other stakeholders. Additionally, the Learning Support Specialist (Math/CSIS) will support faculty and students in math-intensive and computer science courses, including scheduled hours for in-class CSIS support. This is a part-time (up to 29 hours/week), one-year, renewable (grant-funded) position through September 30 of 2024. This is an on-campus position with blended (virtual) responsibilities.
