Epic
United States, Wisconsin, Madison

Server Systems Engineer

Position Summary

As a Server Systems Engineer, you will enable our customers to keep their systems up and running in optimal condition so that they can provide amazing care with the help of our software. Unlike other customer service roles, this position will truly challenge even the most seasoned technical employee to troubleshoot and problem solve deep within the code. You'll have a hand in the development of tools to support operating systems, troubleshoot and debug in the already established code, and monitor overall system health for some of the largest healthcare organizations in the industry. You will work alongside customer analysts and database administrators (DBA) to deploy and maintain the platform that Epic runs on ensuring that healthcare organizations are able to provide around-the-clock care.

Being one of the first teams at Epic to work with new customers, you'll be designing their server infrastructure and building their database from scratch. That relationship will continue over their lifetime with Epic, as you make your customers successful by providing them with the right tools and supporting them in crises. You'll guide them through disaster and contingency plan creation, develop and share expert knowledge in systems and database administration, coordinate with third party hardware vendors, and have the opportunity to work with systems on a scale that is pushing the edge of technology.

The work our Server Systems team does touches every area of Epic-you'll have opportunities to collaborate with developers, technical support, software testers, and implementation specialists across the company. You'll be able to focus and grow your skills in at least one of those areas-we have scripters and documentation specialists, developers and technical support gurus. You'll build valuable industry-wide skills within the field of Information Technology doing high stakes, critical work that allows healthcare providers to better do what they do best: take great care of patients.

Experience our state-of-the-art campus, eat delicious food, and travel the world.

We don't believe in cubicles. (Well, we believe they exist, but...) Our uniquely themed campus was designed to heighten your ability to get stuff done in your office, a conference room, or by the fireplace in a comfy chair. For lunch, visit King's Cross or Cassiopeia for a wide array of meal options, or go to one of our smaller, themed bistros, featuring wood-rotisserie, pan-Asian, and Latin-inspired cuisine. All meals are restaurant-quality but cost only a few dollars, and they're prepared by a team comprised of kitchen talent from restaurants around the country. And, after five years here, you'll earn a four-week sabbatical anywhere in the world. Staff have kayaked in Patagonia, attended a Beyonce concert in Ireland, built a library in Tanzania, and run a marathon in Antarctica.
