Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, invites applicants to apply for a part-time, pre-clinical/clinical faculty up to 2 days per week, 40 weeks per year. The department is responsible for providing the preventive and restorative preclinical and clinical content within the dental school pre-doctoral curriculum including preventive, direct restoration (operative), indirect restoration (fixed), removable prosthodontic and implant restoration.

Pacific faculty engage in teaching, scholarship and service. The successful candidate will supervise pre-clinical student learning experiences in the discipline.

Responsibilities may include any of the following:

I. Teaching Curriculum

  • Instruction in the Integrated Pre-clinical Technique (IPT) curricular strand.
  • Participate in outcomes assessment, including student and peer evaluation, to improve curricular content and presentation.
  • Assist in setting standards of care for our Dugoni School of Dentistry student.
  • Participate in mandatory faculty calibration and development in pre-clinical areas.


II. Patient Care

  • Supervise students providing clinical care of patients in the Dugoni School clinic.
  • Participate in mandatory faculty calibration and development in clinical areas.

II. Collaboration and Service

  • Engage broadly in other school, university, professional, and community service opportunities.
  • In addition to the traditional expectations for faculty members, the culture of humanism and collaboration at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is especially important.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Knowledge of:

  • Dental school educational processes.
  • Restorative and preventive information and technique.
  • Dental materials and emerging digital applications to clinical restorative treatment.


Experience:

  • No previous teaching or practice experience is required for pre-clinical instruction
  • Minimum three years of dental private practice experience for clinical instruction and supervision of patient care.

Education:


  • DDS/DMD or international equivalent
  • Completion of training from an accredited dental school program.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Active license to practice dentistry
  • Valid CPR certification

  • Communicate effective with a diverse population of patients. students, staff, faculty and administration.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Work effectively in a group setting.
  • Reflect, self-assess, and think critically.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations.


Experience:
  • Previous teaching or practice experience is preferred
Other:

  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements

  • Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to teaching and demonstration.
  • Must be able to operate controls, use high-speed or low-speed dental handpieces for tooth preparation procedures, and use hand instrumentation including scalpels for surgical procedures.

Hiring Range $40 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
