Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions |
Faculty in the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) & Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) Program in the School of Health Sciences (
SHS) will collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. The Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor will deliver content as needed within the program, with consideration of areas of expertise throughout the DMSc/DHSc program.
Reports to the Program Director for the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) and Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) program, School of Health Sciences (
SHS). This is an adjunct, nontenure track clinical instructor appointment. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) commensurate with experience.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and instruct course content and materials, in areas of expertise, in alignment with program goals and learning outcomes using innovative teaching modalities for courses with major themes in Health/Medical Education and Leadership.
- Create a student-centered learning environment.
- Prepare lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective asynchronous instruction.
- Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
- Provide timely constructive feedback to learning activities.
- Create the full content for assigned courses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
- An earned doctorate or terminal degree in the field of specialization.
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience developing and delivering online graduate level courses.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Degree from an accredited clinical education program, if applicable to the course content.
- Eligible for unrestricted clinical practice within California in one (1) of the health professions represented in the school, if applicable to the course content.
- Demonstrated experience translating educational content into online adult learning.
- Earned certificate in online learning and/or formal training on the Quality Matters (QM), Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT), or other rubrics for online teaching.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
- Demonstrated potential to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed on-line in a remote location during standard business hours, Pacific time zone. Availability for students, faculty and staff during program hours 8AM - 5PM Pacific time zone is expected, regardless of time-zone where the work is performed. Some events on weekends/evenings are to be expected and will be scheduled with advance notice. Occasional travel to the three (3) university campuses, as well as off-site locations to support recruitment and alumni events. Participation in school-wide meetings virtually and occasional events on-campus as needed. |
Hiring Range |
$4,000.00 - $7,500.00 per term. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
