Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of their supervisor and in accordance with Association policies, the 4K Teacher is responsible for coordinating daily activities in a 4K (Four-Year-Old Kindergarten) program in collaboration with the local school district, and for providing a safe and nurturing environment for a group of 4K children. This position follows the school calendar year schedule and requires a minimum of 1 week of work during each of the summer months. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with school district curriculum and requirements, and actively participate in daily activities for children; engage students and monitor safety during all times of the day.
- Serve as a role model to staff and participants.
- Identify and meet the needs of the children in the program and work with school district personnel to connect children to additional services, as needed.
- Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
- Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department and school district requirements.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
- Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County's emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
- Uphold and exemplify the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
- Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Department of Public Instruction, the local school district, or other regulatory agencies.
- Attend all staff meetings, community outreach events and trainings as required by supervisor or local school district.
- Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in education, with a DPI certificate to teach Early Childhood.
- Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
- Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
