GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of their supervisor and in accordance with Association policies, the 4K Teacher is responsible for coordinating daily activities in a 4K (Four-Year-Old Kindergarten) program in collaboration with the local school district, and for providing a safe and nurturing environment for a group of 4K children. This position follows the school calendar year schedule and requires a minimum of 1 week of work during each of the summer months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with school district curriculum and requirements, and actively participate in daily activities for children; engage students and monitor safety during all times of the day.
  2. Serve as a role model to staff and participants.
  3. Identify and meet the needs of the children in the program and work with school district personnel to connect children to additional services, as needed.
  4. Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance, including parent conferences and handling complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques.
  5. Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
  6. Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department and school district requirements.
  7. Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  8. Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County's emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  9. Uphold and exemplify the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  10. Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Department of Public Instruction, the local school district, or other regulatory agencies.
  11. Attend all staff meetings, community outreach events and trainings as required by supervisor or local school district.
  12. Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have a Bachelor's degree in education, with a DPI certificate to teach Early Childhood.
  3. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  5. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  7. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
