Description
ABOUT US: POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Associate POSITION SUMMARY: The Dr. Gallay lab in the Immunology and Microbiology department is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate researcher to discover new therapeutic candidates that can effectively combat SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 in both mice and in vitro models. While the development of effective vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, vaccine hesitancy in developed countries and vast shortages in low-to-middle income countries are jeopardizing efforts to curb the pandemic. It is estimated that significant proportions of the population are unlikely to be vaccinated until 2030, at the earliest. Consequently, the conditions are ripe for continued spike mutation and evolution to increasingly transmissible strains causing more severe illness. Some of these emerging strains should challenge the protection of current vaccines. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify new therapies to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection and prevent COVID-19.
