Data Scientist

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals
United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge
675 West Kendall Street (Show on map)
Nov 13, 2024

This role is considered On-Site.

Overview

With five commercially approved RNAi therapeutics, Alnylam is at the forefront of gene silencing. Our success is built upon a rational, sequence-based drug design platform informed by predictive models of potency, specificity, and safety. In this role you will have the unique opportunity to apply your mathematical, scientific, and computational skills to directly interface with, and improve, our drug design process. You will design, test, and implement machine learning models related to siRNA activity and specificity that leverage large internal and external RNA-seq and qPCR datasets. You will deploy cutting edge AI/ML models in cloud compute environments and develop high-throughput analysis pipelines that integrate multiple bio-/chemo-informatics software tools. You will collaborate with world-class chemists and apply oligonucleotide chemistry designs in computational models. You will propose experiments to build out training datasets based on the predictions of your models. You will be a key part of a bioinformatics team enabling a novel therapeutic modality to bring impactful medicines to patients in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design ML/AI algorithms related to siRNA specificity and activity
  • Apply your existing scientific knowledge in chemistry/biology/physics/math to problems in RNAi
  • Deploy ML models in AWS cloud computing environments
  • Assist in the design of RNA-seq and qPCR experiments to build impactful training datasets
  • Master and build upon an existing internal python codebase
  • Professionally manage code in a version-controlled system
  • Identify informative siRNA feature descriptors using cheminformatics and data science tools
  • Transfer-learn external models for internal applications
  • Actively contribute to our data science culture

Qualifications

  • Recent Ph.D. or M.S. with 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong math and scientific skills essential; chemistry knowledge considered advantageous
  • Excellent coding abilities in data science relevant languages (python/R) is essential
  • Experience with the design of ML/AI models in a scientific context (required), preferably in a domain relevant to RNAi
  • Familiarity with the deployment of ML models in AWS cloud compute environments
  • Knowledge of, or the capability to master concepts in, oligonucleotide chemistry and RNAi
  • Ability to communicate advanced mathematical concepts and approaches to our scientists
