Overview

The Bioinformatics group is looking for a software engineer to develop, maintain and support web applications and tools utilized by Research, Early Development and other groups within Alnylam in order to improve and quicken our ability to bring novel therapeutics to patients in need. The novelty of the RNAi therapeutics drug modality requires creation of custom software that delivers inventive data analyses and visualizations that support our world-leading capabilities in RNA computational RNA biology and chemistry. In addition, we are currently migrating many of our applications to AWS and standardizing our dev-ops practices in the new environment. We offer the opportunity to actively participate in the improvement of patient's lives through the development of Alnylam's sequence-based siRNA therapeutics, a vanguard of precision medicine.

This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather user requirements and propose solution for new or enhanced applications/tools
  • Develop, debug and test software solutions or enhancements based on requirements and technical discussions
  • Troubleshoot problems and issues reported and develop bug fixes/patches
  • Develop documentation as required which may include functional or design specifications, diagrams and flow charts
  • Utilize our well-established code development practices, including source code control, code reviews, unit test development and modularized design for ease of maintenance
  • Participate in daily standup, scrum planning and retrospective meetings

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • General programming skills
  • Proficient in debugging and problem solving
  • Source code control, git preferred
  • Understanding of web development architecture and interaction between front end and back end
  • Python
  • Flask or equivalent framework for backend web development - is a plus
  • Javascript/jQuery/AJAX
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • React - is a plus
  • MySQL - TSQL, transactions, stored procedures
  • PHP - is a plus
  • Proficient in Linux command line - is a plus
