EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The preparation for Hilliard's new Recreation and Wellness Center ("The Well") is underway and the City is looking for a Recreation Supervisor to oversee fitness and develop wellness programs for local businesses. Under the general direction of the Facility Manager, the Recreation Supervisor of Fitness and Corporate Wellness performs a wide range of duties within the Recreation and Parks Department. The Recreation Supervisor of Fitness and Corporate Wellness provides direct oversight of the management and operations of the fitness floor, equipment, facilities, and fitness programs. This position provides leadership and supervision of part-time Recreation Aides, Instructors, and Contractors. This position develops and implements wellness programming for the business community, as well as fitness and wellness programs for the current Hilliard community center and “The Well,” Hilliard’s new 105,000-square-foot recreation and wellness center, which will encompass a two-story fitness floor, indoor adventure track, and two group exercise studios. This position is responsible for budgeting and financial management, contracts, compliance with safety and security, and executing high-quality customer service. The Recreation Supervisor of Fitness and Corporate Wellness plays a crucial role in ensuring that the fitness and corporate wellness programming at The Well meets the needs of the community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK Provides leadership through effective communication and demonstration of Hilliard’s Promise, vision, mission, and values. Provides outstanding customer service; answers questions about fitness and corporate wellness programming, and general knowledge on all fitness-related topics, programming, and equipment from the public, resolves problems and is solution-oriented, streamlines processes and procedures, and acts as liaison with all local fitness organizations, not-for-profits. Supervises and provides leadership for part-time and contractual staff; recruits, interviews, and hires; provides training, communication, assistance, and guidance; conducts performance evaluations; management of staff scheduling, reviews and approves payroll. Plans, coordinates, supervises, assigns, and implements a variety of quality recreation programs, personal training, activities, and special events based on market analysis and recreation trends locally, regionally and nationally on a seasonal and annual basis to ensure community needs are met; writes program descriptions; enters data into program registration software. Monitors cost recovery, registration and attendance of classes and programs; assesses feasibility, space needs, evaluation, and community interests and needs; cancels classes and programs; submits quarterly and year-end financial reports on programs and activities. Ensures applicable records, reports, and data are compiled and maintained. Works collaboratively and independently on team projects or independent projects. Works collaboratively with Parks and Facilities team to oversee the use of Recreation and Parks facilities, including buildings, parks, and adjacent grounds. Responsible for preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs for fitness equipment. Acts as a liaison for Employee Wellness and Corporate Wellness programs. Manages emergency situations appropriately and follows protocols, policies, and procedures, and makes recommendations for revisions of all policies, procedures, and Emergency Action Plans for programs, facilities, and leagues. Works collaboratively with independent contractors. Negotiates contracts with instructors, personal trainers, vendors, and entertainment for programs, facility use, and scheduling; monitors contract compliance. May investigate complaints directed toward programs, facilities and/or personnel and attempt to resolve problems in a positive manner. Attends all required professional development training sessions and workshops as related to industry best practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Prepares and monitors annual programming budget, tracks cost recovery, provides ongoing financial activity and attendance information; prepares purchase requisitions for all activities, events, and supplies. Creates and implements a recreation program plan specific to work area. Identifies program goals, outcomes, evaluation mechanism to seek community input and involvement, and partnership opportunities. Under the direction of the Facility Manager, works with the Community Relations Department on program updates and marketing plans; works with the Economic Development Department for local business and corporate wellness collaborations. Recreation and Parks Department staff work collaboratively as a team to help with community events and a Supervisor On-Call schedule rotation when needed. Performs other duties as assigned according to Hilliard’s Promise, heart for service, strength in teamwork, and drive for excellence. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of planning, promoting, organizing, and fitness activities, leagues, special events, and operations. Knowledge of maintenance and upkeep of fitness equipment and studios preferred. Considerable knowledge of various recreational fitness programs, special events, and activities, as related to current trends in the industry. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate a variety of fitness recreation programs, corporate wellness programs, special events, and activities to win the support of staff and general public for these programs. Ability to schedule fitness recreational activities and personnel and make recommendations regarding personnel, equipment, maintenance, and supply functions. Ability to supervise, direct, instruct, and solicit cooperation from others in the performance of their daily work assignments and duties. Ability to compile and prepare reports and maintain accurate records. Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion and to provide leadership. Ability to answer inquiries, resolve complaints, and communicate with the public in an effective, tactful, courteous, and professional manner. Ability to effectively use technology related to current business standards; computer and software related to positions and profession. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Sport Management, or other related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of two to four years of experience in fitness is preferred. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional is preferred. Experience with Rec Trac (3.1 preferred) or other software applications is required. |
