Part-Time Lecturer - [Crime and Justice Studies]

The Department of Crime and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks Part-Time Lecturers to teach a variety of courses for the program.

The department is home to a multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary faculty from the Social Sciences and Humanities with research and teachings that offer critical and intersectional perspectives on crime, justice, criminology, and the legal systems.

Individuals are invited from fields drawing upon Justice Studies; Criminology; Critical Race Studies; Critical Geography; Black Studies; Queer Studies; Women's and Gender Studies; American Studies; Ethnic Studies; Indigenous and Native American Studies; Latinx Studies; Chicanx Studies; Abolitionary Histories and Futures; Critical Whiteness Studies; Sociology; Legal Studies; Politics; Transnationalism; and related fields. Applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Individuals will be expected to teach core courses according to their specialties and departmental needs. The departments core courses include CJS 315: Research Methods, CJS 205: Social Theory, CJS 380: Abolitionism, CJS 258: History of Criminology, and numerous others. Individuals will also be asked to teach a wide array of CJS elective courses as well. Some of our existing electives include "Gender, Crime, and Justice"; "Transformative Justice"; and "The Prison Industrial Complex." Additional courses from our listings may be available depending upon area of expertise. Online teaching opportunities may also be available.

Minimum Required Qualifications:



  • hold a Juris Doctor degree or Master's degree in related fields (see above)
  • Teaching experience at the college/university level
  • ABDs will be considered but a Ph.D. is preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • At least one semester of college/university teaching of comparable classes
  • Experience teaching in face to face and online modalities
  • PhD in related fields (see above)
