DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Complete proper documentation (State Ambulance report, billing sheets, data entry form, etc.) with patient information and treatment. Follow appropriate procedure or chain of command when interacting with other personnel or reporting incidents or problems at the scene of the medical emergency or injury. May act as a charge paramedic. Duties include: give reports to the next shift, assign tasks to other shift staff, enforce policies, and act as a resource person to other staff. Perform medical procedures when necessary and as appropriate. Perform primary and secondary physical assessments and obtain a medical history in order to judge the level of illness or injury. Monitor and appropriately interpret patient vital signs under stressful conditions (environment, weather, terrain) in order to provide appropriate medical intervention. Safely operate an emergency response vehicle, emergency communication equipment, and follow the incident chain of command. Teach or assist in in-service and public education programs to hospital and lay personnel. Triage and treat victims in order to perform assigned duties in a disaster. Examines, screens, treats, and coordinates health services for patients. Conducts post-hospital release follow-up care. Performs point-of-care testing and result reporting. Conducts patient education, including prevention/treatment specific to chronic diseases. Follow established procedures in treating radiation exposure victims. May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Paramedic (EMT-P) licensure by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). Chauffeur driver license; class E or higher for Missouri residents. Three (3) years of paramedic experience. Community Paramedic (EMT-CP) licensure by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. Community Paramedic (CP-C) by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) within two (2) years as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
