Senior Director, Advanced Analytics and Data Strategy

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals seeks a visionary and strategic leader to serve as our Senior Director of Advanced Analytics and Data Strategy. This senior leadership role is crucial in driving the company's mission to harness the power of data and analytics to advance RNAi therapeutics. This leader will set the vision, priorities, and deliverables for the Advanced Analytics and Data Strategy team, ensuring alignment with Alnylam's global business objectives. The role demands a forward-thinking leader with deep expertise in data science, analytics, and data strategy, capable of translating complex data insights into actionable business strategies. The ideal candidate will also be adept at partnering closely with Market Research, Business Intelligence, and Digital Analytics teams to create a holistic understanding of customer impact, with a proven track record of working effectively across these functions. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to coach, develop, and inspire a team of advanced analytics experts, fostering a collaborative environment that drives innovation and enhances the team's strategic capabilities.

The Senior Director, Advanced Analytics and Data Strategy will actively contribute to the Customer Experience and Innovation Leadership Team.

This position is located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Vision and Strategy:
    • Develop and communicate a clear and compelling vision for the Advanced Analytics and Data Strategy team, aligned with Alnylam's global objectives.
    • Set strategic priorities and ensure the team's efforts are focused on high-impact initiatives that drive business value and support the company's mission.
    • Lead the creation and execution of a global data strategy that enables advanced analytics, fosters innovation, and supports data-driven decision-making across the organization.
    • Collaborate with Market Research, Business Intelligence, and Digital Analytics to integrate data sources and generate a comprehensive understanding of customer impact.
  2. Leadership and Team Development:
    • Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to a team of data scientists, analysts, and data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
    • Inspire and guide the team to deliver high-quality analytics and data solutions that meet the evolving needs of the business.
    • Build and maintain a diverse and high-performing team, recruiting top talent and ensuring the team's skill set remains cutting-edge.
  1. Global Collaboration:
    • Act as a thought partner and advisor to senior business leaders across Alnylam's global commercial organization, particularly in the US, Europe, and Japan, helping to shape and influence business strategy with data-driven insights.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Commercial, Market Research, Business Intelligence, Digital Analytics, and Operations, to ensure alignment and integration of data initiatives with business goals.
    • Drive global consistency and standards in commercial data practices while allowing for regional customization where necessary.
  2. Data Governance and Innovation:
    • Establish and enforce robust data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across all regions.
    • Champion the use of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to unlock new business opportunities and improve operational efficiencies.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, continuously exploring innovative approaches to leverage data in achieving Alnylam's strategic goals.
  3. Stakeholder Management and Communication:
    • Effectively communicate complex data insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, including the C-suite, in a clear and actionable manner.
    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, fostering a deep understanding of their business needs and ensuring analytics solutions are tailored to meet those needs.
    • Represent Alnylam externally, positioning the company as a leader in the use of data and analytics within the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in advanced analytics, data science, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Ability to coach technical experts in data science and oversee solutions using Python, R, Alteryx, and/or SQL
  • Experience working in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of setting vision, strategy, and execution plans for data teams in a global context.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performing, diverse teams across multiple geographies.
  • Experience serving as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior business leaders.
  • Deep understanding of advanced analytics, machine learning, AI, and data governance.
  • Strong command of data platforms, tools, and technologies used in modern analytics ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse data sets from regions outside the US and translate these into actionable insights that drive global business strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Strong global perspective, with the ability to work effectively across cultures and regions.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with Market Research, Business Intelligence, and Digital Analytics to create a holistic understanding of customer impact.
