Under supervision, performs work on the vessels and facilities of the Staten Island Ferry, relating to installing, maintaining and repairing piping, controls and equipment for heating systems, compressed air systems, refrigerating systems, air conditioning systems, steam and hot water systems, fire suppression systems, cooling systems and sprinkler systems; performs related work. Minimum Qualifications 1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Steam Fitter; or Preferred Skills
*** IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING AS A PERMANENT STEAM FITTER, OR HAVE FILED FOR THE STEAM FITTER EXAM NO. 3104 AND PROVIDE PROOF OF FILING/PASSING, OR BE ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55A PROGRAM *** LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the state of New York is required for appointment in DOT. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT: Candidates must pass a drug screening to be appointed. Steam Fitters are subject to random drug and alcohol testing during their employment. TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
