Global Health Programs Specialist

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation's leading advocacy organization for children's healthcare, is seeking a public health professional with strong project management skills for a newly created opportunity. Reporting to the Director of Global Health, this role will provide administrative and programmatic support to the global health staff, including providing technical assistance and support to newborn and child health programs.

Some tasks include:

  1. Lead assigned global health projects in collaboration with AAP global health staff, advisory committees and groups, and project technical advisors, to develop content curriculum for trainings, workshops, educational materials, and other project deliverables, including conducting literature reviews, editing, and drafting technical content, and developing survey and evaluation tools.
  2. Synthesize project learnings and successes by supporting data collection activities and draft dissemination materials to share AAP activities with global audiences (e.g. case studies, curricula, briefers).
  3. Act as liaison for various internal and external global coalitions, listservs, and memberships. Represent global health team on teleconferences, provide updates to global health team and track follow-up action items, including internal advisory committees and groups.
  4. Manage assigned newborn course registries and contacts database and facilitate communications and evaluation surveys with implementing partners. Work with global health programs staff on the creation of instructor, provider, and course director communications.
  5. Research, write, and develop content and marketing materials for AAP global website, social media accounts, and other project-specific web pages as requested. Maintain global newborn project pages and ensure coordination and programmatic synergies with external program web sites.
  6. Respond to key partner and member inquiries related to global health team programs. Escalate matters to other staff as needed.
  7. Assist in the evaluation of new opportunities to align with global health project implementation with the AAP global strategic plan. Support development of new grant proposals, including writing content.
  8. Support development, review, and execution of contracts for all assigned team projects. Track subcontracts to ensure all deliverables and payments are met.
  9. Coordinate meeting logistics for assigned planning and committee meetings and events. Work closely with AAP global health staff team to coordinate meeting logistics for planning meetings and courses and seminars.
  10. Work with program staff to track internal deadlines and assist with preparing reports for AAP senior leadership, Board of Directors, sections, and advisory committees.
  11. Support the Global Operations & Program Development team in other functions related to program management, including independently managing assigned processes and other project components and coordinating partner and member meetings.
  12. Support global activities at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition, including identifying opportunities to highlight and engage members in AAP global child health work activities.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  1. Bachelors' degree in public health, health administration, health policy, health education, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
  2. At least two years related public health project coordination/management and implementation experience required, including editing/drafting communications and web/social media content; drafting project reports and presentations; and collaborating with external partners. Experience working with global health initiatives and in a professional association or non-profit preferred.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, project management, critical thinking, and diplomacy skills required. Must be able to proactively manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines, adapt to changing procedures and processes, take initiative, pay close attention to detail, work both independently and as part of a team, communicate with cultural sensitivity, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with databases, web maintenance software (e.g., SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Webex, Teams) preferred. Knowledge of foreign language(s) desirable. Some travel (domestic and international) and evening/weekend work may be required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.

Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
