POSITION/JOB TITLE: Engineering Intern

DEPARTMENT: Engineering & Technology

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Process Engineer / Scientist

TRAVEL: 10%-25% Domestic

POSITION SUMMARY:

SunCoke Energy is recognized world-wide as the leader in heat recovery coke making technology. The Engineering & Technology Department is responsible for developing new technology for future plants while continually seeking ways to improve operating efficiency, production rate and environmental and safety performance at our facilities. The Engineering Intern position in the E&T Department works closely with a process engineer supervisor on projects involving process improvements or research programs in the areas of coke production or environmental compliance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work in a safe manner. Attend all required safety training, follow all safety rules and work practices, and properly use company-provided safety equipment including PPE. Demonstrate a consistent safety focus and awareness in the field. Demonstrate the courage to speak up and identify issues and concerns.
  • Work in an ethical manner. Properly and accurately fill out all required work documentation including time sheets and expense reports. Properly handle confidential business information.
  • Engineering interns are given their own hands-on project with a scope that can be completed in a summer term. Interns work with guidance from a Process Engineer but have significant autonomy on their project.
  • Engineering interns work in potentially all stages of a project including; trial design and execution, data collection, data analysis, and preparation of final reports. Trial execution and data collection may require travel to a plant and working at odd hours. Project may entail extensive work in the field.


  • Prepare and give a final presentation to upper management


TECHNICAL SKILLS:



  • Initial engineering college coursework
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Good computer/programming skills
  • Strong safety ethic


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • College level course work in STEM required
  • Chemical Engineering preferred, Mechanical acceptable
  • Junior preferred, Sophomore acceptable
  • Prior technical or industrial work experience a plus
  • Prior team-based work experience a plus
