Job Description The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for supervising the activities including planning, coordinating, scheduling, disciplining, evaluating and monitoring within the assigned area. Responsibilities for the Laboratory Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
Supervises staff to ensure the smooth flow of operations and compliance with hospital and department policies, procedures, and other regulatory agencies. Provides technical guidance and assistance to the staff. Schedules adequate number of personnel to meet productivity while meeting the budget and limiting overtime. Provides technical guidance and assistance to the staff. Develops, reviews and updates technical policy and procedure manuals. Monitors and reviews patient results for significant analytical errors and unusual values and resolves problems that may adversely affect test results and notifies appropriate personnel. Communicates with all shifts and follows through concerning incomplete work/issues. Notifies the director of problem situations and possible solutions. The Laboratory Coordinator operates the department in a cost-effective manner and maintains expenses within the budget.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science field is required. Certified in clinical laboratory science by recognized certifying agencies. Must have at least 1 year experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the designated discipline and be qualified under CLIA regulations to function as a General or Technical Supervisor. General supervisory experience is preferred. Membership in a professional organization is highly desirable but not mandatory
