DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting inspections aimed at safeguarding the operations of Underground Anthracite Coal Mining. This encompasses both mine inspections and rescue operations within the mining environment. All information gathered during these activities will be entered into the electronic data system of the Department of Environmental Protection to maintain both accuracy and efficiency in reporting.

Additionally, the individual in this position will engage with the public and stakeholders in the mining sector to advocate for safety measures and adherence to established standards. During inspections within the mines, evaluations of mining equipment will be carried out to ensure compliance with the prescribed safety regulations. Should any hazardous conditions be identified, it will be the responsibility of the incumbent to promptly inform mine officials and personnel to facilitate necessary corrective measures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require you to be on call 24/7.
  • Multiple positions may be filled from this posting as they become available in one of the following counties: Schuylkill, Carbon, Dauphin, Northumberland, Columbia, Lackawanna, and Luzerne
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Ten years of experience in underground anthracite coal mines, with the five years immediately preceding the examination being in the underground anthracite coal mines of Pennsylvania; and graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Candidates must have practical experience with explosive gas or other dangerous gases found in coal mines.

N ecessary Special Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

  • This exam is based on the Anthracite Coal Mine Act No. 346. It will be to your advantage to study the Anthracite Coal Mine Act.
  • You may retest one month after the date of your last exam. A new application must be submitted.
  • Your results will be provided via email.
  • Only your most recent exam score is counted.
