Creighton University Grounds and Landscaping Services department has an open position for a Full-time, Benefit Eligible, year round, Groundskeeper/Landscaper. Depending upon the qualifications of final candidate they will be offered one of the levels below. Depending upon the qualifications of final candidate they will be offered one of the levels below.
While performing the duties of this job (Groundskeeper/Landscaper I,II, III), the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling all day. Must be able to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter) for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
This position is Monday to Friday; 7am-3:30pm (Winter Hours) and 6am-2:30pm (Spring/Summer). Must be able to work overtime and weekends if needed for inclement weather events (ie snow and ice removal, spring storm clean up). Must be able to report to campus during inclement weather.
Summary:
Groundskeeper/ Landscaper I, II, III:
Landscaper is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of over 150 acres to include grounds, roads and pathways. Mows, fertilizes, and maintains turf grass. Transplants, prunes, waters, and maintains ornamental plants, trees and shrubs. Weeds, mulches, and maintains ornamental beds. Performs litter control and general grounds maintenance. Maintains and performs basic repairs to landscape irrigation system. Sweeps, repairs, and otherwise maintains hardscape areas. Installs and maintains campus signage and site fixtures. Provides support for outdoor events. Performs snow removal. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons and weather conditions. Performs basic inspections and maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Operates equipment including large mowers, skid steers, brush chipper, and sweepers.
Qualifications:
*Groundskeeper/Landscaper I - Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent;
1-2 years related experience in grounds preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Basic computer proficiency/skills;
Ability to self-start, work independently and complete work orders in a timely manner;
Strong customer service focus;
Knowledge of ground related equipment/tools (e.g. shovel, rake, prunes, saw, t-post) preferred;
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of operating grounds equipment preferred;
Ability to see details at close range;
Ability to listen and understand spoken information and ideas;
Ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects;
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs;
Ability to work at heights of 20 feet and above;
Ability to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter) for extended periods of time;
Ability to be "on-call" on a rotational schedule
Required Licenses/Certifications
Must have a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years.
*Groundskeeper/Landscaper II - Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
2-4 years' experience; prefer Commercial Pesticide Applicator's
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
License, Nebraska Arborists Association certification or CDL;
Knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures and best practices;
Knowledge (identification and general maintenance requirements) of plant and turf species;
Knowledge of grounds-related equipment and tools (e.g. shovel, rake, prunes, saw, t-post) and their use/maintenance;
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of operating grounds equipment;
Interpersonal/human relations skills;
Ability to lead a small crew;
Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions;
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs;
Ability to work at heights of 20 feet and above;
Ability to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter) for extended periods of time;
Ability to be "on-call" on a rotational schedule
Required Licenses/Certifications

*Groundskeeper/Landscaper III - Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 2-4-year college degree or equivalent licenses/certificates, required.
- 5+ years' Experience with commercial or residential acreage experience, required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to lead and direct a crew
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds throughout the workday.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights of 20 feet and above.
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to perform task in various weather conditions.
- Experience operating a truck with a trailer.
- Experience building walls, laying patios, rocks beds and the various tools and equipment.
- Well versed to maintain and make general repair to small engines, equipment, and vehicles.
- Must demonstrated customer service focus and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to accommodate night, weekend and holiday work as needed.
- Must be able to follow directives and work independently.
- In-depth knowledge of various plant, tree and turf diseases.
- Computer and typing skills.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Requires a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years.
- Commercial pesticide and fertilizer applicator certificate/licenses, required.
- Horticulturist and Arborist license or equivalent work experience required.
