Assistant Professor in Rehabilitation Counseling

Position Description

The Department of Counseling, Recreation and School Psychology (CRSP) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Rehabilitation Counseling, to commence in the Fall semester of 2025.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include an earned Doctorate (Ph. D., Ed. D., Rh.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education and Supervision, Rehabilitation Counseling, Mental Health Counseling or other closely related discipline from a CACREP-accredited university.

Candidate must be credentialed as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Preference will be given to candidates with dual credentials in either Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CCMHC/LMHC/LMFT), or Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) and School Counseling (NCC/NCSC/LSC).

Successful candidates should demonstrate ability and further potential to conduct impactful and high-quality research. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of published research in top journals. Applications are also encouraged from those with a record of external funding or potential for securing external funding.

Candidates should have the capacity to teach graduate level courses, and the ability to advice and mentor students. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated instruction effectiveness in a variety of modalities, including in-person and fully online courses at an institution of higher education.

Candidates must have a strong professional identity as a counselor and evidence of commitment to the profession of counseling.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include establishing and sustaining a research and scholarship program by leading and executing research projects, publishing manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research at conferences, seeking external funding to support research activities, and building collaborative research partnerships that contribute to FIUs Top 50 ranking within their discipline. Faculty in the counselor education program at FIU teach at the graduate level in various delivery modalities, advise and mentor graduate students, and are expected to engage in service activities at the department, institutional and professional levels. Tenured and tenure-track faculty in the department typically have 45% research, 45% teaching, and 10% annual service load.

About the Counselor Education Program at FIU

FIUs Counselor Education program, within the Department of Counseling, Recreation & School Psychology, is CACREP-accredited and offers a 60-credit Master of Science degree program with tracks in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling. The program focuses on training counselors to meet the challenges involved in working in a multiethnic, multicultural and urban environment. Educational experiences emphasize multiculturalism in practice and theory as well as opportunities for professional and personal growth.

The Department of Counseling, Recreation & School Psychology (CRSP) offers 2 undergraduate programs in Rehabilitation & Recreational Therapy, and Sport and Recreation Management, as well as 4 graduate programs in Counselor Education, School Psychology, Research Design & Analysis, and Sport and Recreation Management. The Department is housed within the School of Education and Human Development.
