DESCRIPTION

Physical Sciences is a large and complex school within Academic Affairs and is overseen by the Dean of Physical Sciences with the assistance of an Assistant and Associate Deans. The School's organization is comprised of four departments: Chemistry & Biochemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy & Astrophysics. Each department is headed by a Department Chair who works to represent their department and as well as participates collaboratively with the Dean. The School has approximately 185 faculty FTE, ~30 professional researchers, ~100 postdoctoral scholars, ~45 Unit 18s/lecturers, ~100 staff in career/casual titles, and ~100 student workers and volunteers. Approximately 4,000 undergraduate students enrolled in our majors, with annual enrollments of 76,000, and approximately 700 graduate students. The school has approximately $184M in total annual expenditures, $100M in annual core budget, and ~$76M in sponsored project funds per year. The School occupies space in 8 buildings, totaling ~600,000 square feet, including class laboratories and instructional space, research labs, and multiple recharge facilities.

Uses professional concepts to apply organization policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administers defined operational program. Analyzes and resolves operational problems of moderate scope.

This position is responsible for independently managing all School of Physical Sciences space and facilities projects and systems, including space assignments (all Tririga) and floorplans, and working with the Space Committee to operationalize space-related projects across the School. Manages workflow of all facilities projects. General facilities management tasks within classification will be required under the work direction of department leads.

May be required to work in the vicinity of labs contaminated with bio-hazardous substances and noise levels.

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends. May work overtime, alternate shifts, or call-back hours as determined by the University's needs.

  • Submission of a cover letter along with a resume is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of facilities/space analysis and planning concepts, and information system utilization.

  • Thorough working knowledge/skills in city planning, architecture, or other planning-related fields.

  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness.

  • Knowledge/understanding and at least some experience with Safety Data Sheets, hazard communication, and the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

  • Familiarity with a Chemical Hygiene Plan addressing safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, and use of protective items.

  • Demonstrated skill in using computerized systems for analysis and report preparation.

  • High-level skill in Excel (pivot tables), database programs (complex data analysis), and presentation software (PowerPoint, Visio, etc).

  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training documents. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen.

  • Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a stressful environment.

  • Active listening, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve questions, concerns, issues or problems and ensure cooperative and productive working relationships. Ability to effectively communicate, in written and verbal forms, with a broad spectrum of faculty, administrators, and other officials in the University system as well as a broad variety of people outside of the University.

  • Skills to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines, establish goals and workload priorities, and meet project deadlines within budget and time constraints. Strong organizational skills. An influencing communicator with a sensitivity toward collaborating with clients (users) to achieve win/win solutions, resourcefulness, innovative thinking, and a sense of urgency to meet clients' needs in a timely manner.

  • Flexibility in organizing, establishing, and modifying work priorities for the position and the team as necessary, under the pressure of deadlines, and changing priorities without compromising work quality and productivity.

  • Willingness and ability to keep safety training current and consistent with research involvement.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $72,621 - $105,799 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.78 - $50.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
