Daikin Applied is seeking a Design Technical Lead. The Design Technical Lead is a working leader who creates and coordinates training plans, and process improvement activities, along with tool upgrades and enhancements for design teams. They will work closely with Development Engineers and Principle/Senior Designers in projects that develop HVAC products and tools. They are responsible for creating software programs that work with and generate modular designs, drawings, bills of material, and other manufacturing and engineering documents based on engineering specifications. Location: Staunton, VA - Hybrid

What you will do:



  • Provide strategic ownership of the data systems, Agile PLM, computer-assisted engineering and design software, and other tools the designers and engineers use with the intent to evaluate and recommend solutions to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and leverage progressive technologies to drive product development quality and time to market
  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement system improvements including developing documentation of all processes and delivering training, as needed
  • Quantify the financial and operational impacts of the identified opportunities and build a business case to justify the investment in proceeding with the project
  • Convert basic rules-based designs into code for automated BOM, modular designs, assembly drawings, and flat file outputs
  • Partner with IT department to represent the systems needs of the design teams and implement best practices for scalability, supportability, ease of maintenance, and system performance
  • Champion an integrated model validation process with the simulation teams and operations teams (Integrated Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.)
  • Install software and user utilities for modifications and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments
  • Provide leadership, conflict resolution, and consensus management among employees and other departments
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner
  • Provide input to the operating costs of the department in preparation of budget forecasts

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree (Technical, Scientific, Engineering, or Computer Science)
  • Ten years of related experience in design and modeling, coupled with expertise in information systems
  • Basic programming language experience with the ability to program
  • Experience with SolidWorks Standard and Draft Sight
  • Solid knowledge of data systems architecture and applications to facilitate cross-functional communication to achieve targeted outcomes
  • Track record of managing digital transformation projects with the ability to effectively communicate project status and results to leadership
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills with the ability to empower others to grow and deliver results
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Design/Drafting degree
  • Mechanical and Electrical design experience
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, Visio and KiCAD
  • Moderate to advanced Excel skills
  • Oracle experience
