Architect - Logistics Systems About the Team Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is a multi-channel, multi- brand specialty retailer of high quality products for the home. The Logistics technology team implements and supports all the technologies in our warehouses and those that support all inventory movement - inbound and outbound. This role is within the tech engineering & solutions group focused on delivering new capabilities and enhancing existing capabilities to support the company's logistics operations. About the Role The Architect has ownership over the Logistics domain with a broad range of skills and knowledge that allows them to provide broad technical leadership within the domain. The role requires deep knowledge of technologies and applications that support the warehousing operations (WMS, WES and WCS), transportation management, shipping solutions, final mile delivery solutions, personalization management solutions and labor management. The role also requires the ability to build solutions and architect integrations through - microservices, socket based integration, API based integration using Kafka, Java. In addition, a successful candidate will have proficient knowledge of automated seamless devops orchestration. Responsibilities
- Partner with product management and business teams on the goals and business requirements of large programs and strategic initiatives and translate those into technical design requirements for engineering teams.
- Set architectural & design direction and standards for the Logistics/Fulfillment domain.
- Initiate, lead, and contribute to the creation and review of organizational technical standards. Ensure that project and program approaches and designs are consistent with organizational principles and constraints. Propose, understand and explain architectural principles and design constraints.
- Identify opportunities for shared platform capabilities and implications of not developing capabilities or solutions.
- Participate in the decomposition of programs into deliverable projects.
- Evaluate proposed approaches and designs of others and provide constructive feedback.
- Navigate through significant ambiguity and uncertainty, and devise approaches to accommodate or resolve those uncertainties.
- Identify viable strategies to address project needs and document their respective benefits and trade-offs.
- Coordinate between architects and delivery teams in multiple domains.
- Identify the need for and lead the creation and review of interface specifications and service contracts.
- Mentor others on known complex technical topics.
- Identify areas of opportunity for enterprise skill growth.
Criteria
- Proficient technical knowledge and experience in Warehouse Management Systems (Manhattan), Warehouse Execution Systems (Dematic, Savoye etc.), Warehouse Control Systems (Honeywell, Tompkins etc.), Transportation Management (Manhattan), deep technical skills (microservices integrations, MHE Integrations, TCP socket integrations and infrastructure) and problem domains.
- 10+ years relevant technical experience. Experience with Manhattan products desirable.
- Ability to conduct deep analysis of logs to identify problems. (Kibana logs, AWR reports, Manhattan logs etc.)
- Strategic technical leadership. Able to provide technical direction to, and review the work of practitioners in the logistics domains as well as to other architects.
- Strong problem identification, analysis, and decision-making skills. Able to decompose complex solutions into logical units at multiple levels, identifying key responsibilities of, and integration points between, the units and layers. Able to propose and evaluate alternative designs and approaches, and articulate the significant similarities and differences between them, and the trade-offs that each represents. Able to make sound decisions between alternative designs and approaches.
- Strong learning agility. Able to learn and develop a working knowledge in adjacent skills and domains when necessary.
- Strong architecture and design skills. Able to create viable approaches and designs for complex solutions and explain the rationale for the choices within those designs. Able to understand the impact of design decisions on all components of a solution, and with the other systems and solutions in related domains, as well as the implications of those decisions on those systems over timeframes of 3-5 years.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
- This role requires being onsite in the office Monday through Thursday, with Friday as optional. Office locations include either - Braselton, Georgia; Olive Branch, Mississippi; Litchfield Park, Arizona; or Arlington, Texas.
