CMM Programmer (Second Shift)

Overview:

The CMM programmer is responsible for creating and developing direct-computer control (DCC) programs for coordinate-measuring machines and complex test/inspection equipment to perform layout dimensional inspection of mechanical hardware using Marotta drawings to assure accurate measurements are taken in a timely and efficient manner. This position reports to the Manager Quality Control to provide support to Incoming Inspection and In-process Inspection to determine acceptability of parts for First Article, First Piece and normal inspection. The CMM Programmer works with Quality, Engineering, and Operations personnel. Shift differential applies. Work Schedule 4:30 pm to 2:30 am Mondays to Thursdays.

Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Technical school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience at test and inspection in a manufacturing or production environment with mechanical parts
  • Experience in quality and source inspection on machined/mechanical parts using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • The candidate must have prior CMM programming experience. Experience with Optical and mechanical tools/ measuring instruments for inspections is desired
  • ISO9001 / AS9100 knowledgeable. Familiar with AQL, sampling methods and traceability.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents
  • Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and update CMM programs on current and new part number launches to meet customer specifications
  • Program, run, and inspect parts, gages, and tooling on a CMM, as part of the Quality Control function, and print to CAD
  • Perform layouts
  • Read, understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Coordinate with customer, suppliers, Engineering, Operations, and other sources to resolve issues and meet goals
  • Support troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Read and analyze CMM reports
  • Maintain CMM machines to include probe qualifications, regular cleaning and inspection of scales
  • Report on fixtures needed to hold products for inspection during product development; sets criteria for instruments and specifications
  • Communicate with the Quality department to develop inspection methods, tool mapping, First Article Inspections (FAI's), and in process checks
  • Revise product programs and documents based on engineering changes, as required
  • Maintain the Program library in an organized manner so personnel can access information to verify inspection criteria
  • Optimize the inspection process by identifying Quality bottlenecks that hinder production
  • Inspect products using gauges, coordinate measuring machine, scales, oscilloscope and vision prior to shipment
  • Perform inspections with calipers, radius gauges, single-axis laser scanner, comparators, and measurement machines
  • Perform Mechanical measurements and visual quality assessments of received items, work-in-progress, and finished goods
  • Create defect notes for inspected product found to be unacceptable
  • Generate spreadsheets for data collection
  • Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments
  • Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, rejecting and returning unacceptable materials
  • Approve in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, communicating required adjustments to production supervisor
  • Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for re-work, and confirming re-work
  • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work and waste, and inputting data into quality database
  • Ensure measurement equipment is operational and properly calibrated , according to operating instructions and manage repairs

  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Assist with composing work instructions
  • Assist with training requirements of new hires and existing employees and facilitate training if needed
  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and respond to actions, in support of company initiatives/goals, as directed
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
  • Actively support the timely closure of initiatives and activities, through effective interaction with individuals both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required)
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required



Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 10 hours, Monday through Thursday. Overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • Travel is rare but may be required to coordinate proper CMM inspection techniques with Suppliers
