Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer with a specialty in power systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in our Walnut Creek office. This role will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally preparing plans, designs and plan production for general electrical engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include lighting, power, and grounding plans, one-line diagrams, panel and cable schedules, and different project specifications. Projects include: electrical infrastructure for ports, waterfronts, industrial, commercial, government and military facilities. You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. You will support projects both on the job site as well as in the office.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Completes multiple or complex electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Perform electrical calculations, design drawings, and project specifications using latest engineering practices and code requirements.
  • Design
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Overhead power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Electrical power monitoring systems
    • Selective coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies
  • Prepares detailed contract documents and studies
  • Perform construction administration support and inspections
  • Assist in companywide QA/QC process
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; required
  • 3-6 years of related design experience; required
  • EIT, completion of fundamentals of Engineering (FE), or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California; preferred
  • Pole detail and overhead power distribution design experience; required
  • Substation and transmission power design experience; preferred
  • Software requirements:
    • Strong AutoCAD and/or Revit skills
    • Proficiency in lighting calculation software such as AGI32 or others
    • Proficiency in ETAP, SKM or EasyPower
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70; required
  • Ability to acquire TWIC card within 6 months; required
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$112,500 to $160,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.

Working conditions:

Sometime will be spent in an office setting, while other times will be spent at worksites. May have to work on worksites and around live electrical equipment and systems.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required. Ability to use standard office equipment.
