Overview

Reporting to the Associate Director, Grants and Sponsorships, the Manager of Grants and Sponsorships will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of educational grants, sponsorships, and corporate memberships processed by the Alnylam Grants and Giving Office. She/he will be responsible for the overall external funding review process, including due diligence, internal/external stakeholder engagement and communication, reporting of outcomes and metrics, and compliance adherence and process improvement. In collaboration with Ethics and Compliance, this role will contribute to the development, interpretation, training and implementation of policies, procedures, and work instructions that relate to the submission, review and approval of external funding managed by the Grants and Giving Office. This role will also provide critical support to various processes, systems and projects within the Medical Excellence and Operations function.

Primary Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the Associate Director, Grants and Sponsorships, provide initial oversight of incoming CME and non-CME educational grants, sponsorships and corporate membership requests relating to Alnylam disease areas of interest
  • Perform the initial due diligence on all submitted applications, liaise with internal stakeholders on funding budget and alignment, manage letters of agreement, process payments of approved funding awards, and collate and analyze outcome data
  • Coordinate funding milestone tracking, new vendors, reconciliations, and audit readiness for Grants and Giving Office
  • Help coordinate monthly and ad hoc Fund Review Committee (FRC) meetings, and distribute corresponding materials for review and approval
  • Manage software and web-based solutions for Grants and Giving Office processes, and collaborate with Alnylam's IT and Ethics and Compliance departments on facilitation of updates, system enhancements, and end-user training
  • Provide input into the ongoing enhancement of external funding processes to ensure compliance with Alnylam's policies, utilizing industry insights and benchmarking data
  • Participate in training on data management systems that effectively support the review and approval process, archiving and maintenance of all funding programs
  • Participate in various projects withinMedical Excellence and Operations function
  • Work closely with all Grants and Giving Office business partners, including Finance Operation, Ethics and Compliance, IT, and Legal
  • Demonstrate understanding and ensure compliant processing of all external funding requests as relating to applicable FDA regulations, IFPMA Code, EFPIA Code, PhRMA Code and OIG guidelines and regulations, as well AACME/EACCME and other emerging compliance, regulatory, and CME trends
  • Ensure that all requests are reviewed based on applicable laws, including but not limited to Anti-Kickback Statute, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of compliance issues related to external funding, including of Educational Grants, Sponsorships, Collaborations, and Corporate Memberships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of relevant laws including, but not limited to, Anti-Kickback Statute, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), FDA regulations, IFPMA Code, EFPIA Code, PhRMA Code, OIG and AACME/EACCME as well as other industry rules and guidelines
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to complete tasks within allotted timeframes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and thrive both as an individual contributor and as part of a broader team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in external funding management required
  • Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with Medical Operations and/or Compliance Operations exposure preferred
  • Proficiency with various funding management systems
