The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an open rank faculty member to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. Position Overview The Division of Cardiac Surgery, within the Department of Surgery, is recruiting an open rank faculty member with a basic science research focus. Expertise in transplantation, ischemia reperfusion injury, drug delivery, chemical or biomedical engineering, organ preservation, mitochondrial biology or endothelial cell biology is a plus. Duties and Responsibilities Candidates will serve as principal investigator and co-investigator on research projects, participate in an active program in the field of ischemia reperfusion injury; design research projects and write grant proposals, and collaborate with other investigators in the University. There is an expectation for extramural funding as well as teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and graduate students. Requirements
Department/Division Overview The Department of Surgery, led by Dr. Timothy Pawlik, boasts a broad array of clinical, research and educational opportunities. The department is home to multiple R01 funded researchers, several training grants, and with over $15.5M in NIH funding, was ranked #11 in the Blue Ridge Rankings among departments of surgery nationally. Our investigators collectively occupy over 25,000 square feet of laboratory space within and around the medical center campus. The Division of Cardiac Surgery is led by Bryan Whitson. The research activities of our division explore basic science by understanding and analyzing muscle biology and cell membrane repair. Our team also excels in translational research with studies of resuscitation of lungs before transplant and also in clinical research, where we evaluate new and smaller ventricular assist devices and valves. We also have a strong clinical outcomes research group that evaluates the impact of delivery of care on cardiac surgery outcomes. The division has also has a strong interest in training the next generation of cardiac surgeons. As such, we welcome medical students and residents to participate in our clinical and research activities.
