Oral Surgeons Job Summary

The oral and maxillofacial physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases, defects, and injuries occurring in the soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region - face, head, jaws, and neck.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs biopsies to determine whether tumors or growths are cancerous. (0%)
  • Administers local, regional, or general anesthetics to patients before surgeries. (0%)
  • Surgically removes tumors and abnormal growths of the oral and maxillofacial areas. (0%)
  • Adjusts patients' jaws to provide increased functionality, comfort, and symmetry. (0%)
  • Removes impacted wisdom teeth and buried dental roots. (0%)
  • Performs reconstructive surgery to treat congenital defects, structural abnormalities, and injuries. (0%)
  • Prepares patients' mouths for dental implants. (0%)
  • Collaborates with various healthcare specialists to create suitable treatment plans for patients. (0%)
  • Informs patients of their diagnoses and discussing appropriate treatment options with them. (0%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree Required

Work Experience:

    Licenses:
    • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
    • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
    • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
    • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
    • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
    • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
    • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Computer skills required.
    • Computer skills preferred.

    $329,600.00 - $438,200.00 / yr (Pay range listed is for 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE). See Work Type for actual FTE)
