WETA/PBS NewsHour | Diversity Employer
Founded in 1961, WETA is the leading public broadcasting station in the nation’s capital and serves our community with educational, cultural, news and public affairs programs and services.
History
WETA’s public service began 60 years ago when a group of visionaries led by Washington publisher Willard Kiplinger and former college dean and Arlington School Board Chairman Elizabeth Campbell secured a license from the FCC and launched WETA Channel 26 on October 2, 1961. Since then, WETA has steadily expanded its public service — but its mission remains fundamentally the same. WETA is committed to presenting educational programming for children and to providing opportunities for lifelong learning for all who seek enrichment, inspiration and information.
Mission
WETA's mission is to produce and distribute content of intellectual integrity and cultural merit using a broad range of media to reach audiences both in our community and nationwide. We leverage our collective resources to extend our impact. We will be true to our values; and we respect diversity of views, culture and heritage.
Community Impact
Since 1961 WETA has been a trusted partner in the D.C. community — a local touchstone for free, quality educational programming and activities. With deep roots in public education, WETA was founded to enrich the lives of the people of Greater Washington, and over the years we have developed educational resources that serve all local residents, including some of the most vulnerable and underserved.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at WETA
At WETA, we value the experiences and perspectives of a diverse workforce. We welcome, appreciate and respect the multiplicity of ways in which individuals identify by national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and socioeconomic stratum. We strive to treat everyone fairly and provide access to the same opportunities and advancement for all. We strive to showcase meaningful representation of our different voices and perspectives in all aspects of the work we do. We want our workplace to reflect the diversity of our community, both locally and nationally.
Careers at WETA
We consider the employees of WETA to be our most valuable resource.
Our organization is made strong by a highly qualified, diverse and talented staff who are vital to WETA’s future.
Approximately 350 full and part-time employees work in WETA's offices in Arlington, Virginia to produce and broadcast compelling programs for WETA Television; to operate Classical WETA 90.9 FM, the only classical music radio station in the Washington area; and to serve our community with education and outreach initiatives that contribute to our mission.
We believe you'll find WETA one of the most dynamic and rewarding places to work in the Washington, D.C. area.
