Position title: Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Meteorologist Salary range:
A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $93,400 - $122,100 (Assistant rank); $116,200-$146,700 (Associate rank); and $136,400 (starting step at Full rank). "Off-scale salaries", i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. We seek motivated, broad-thinking scientists to develop a vigorous research group and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise in the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E). The successful candidates will have expertise emphasizing atmospheric rivers (ARs), with methodologies including, but not limited to, field and aircraft campaigns, climatological data analysis, meteorological analysis at local scales, extreme events, global and/or regional climate modeling, polar applications, forecasting and nowcasting, including precipitation and hydrological impacts. The Researcher series at SIO parallels the Professor series in terms of independent research and service, but it carries no teaching requirements. Researchers hired under this announcement are expected to have established an externally funded research program that provides the majority of their salary support. Researchers at SIO often serve as undergraduate and graduate student advisors. Qualifications Basic qualifications

The positions require a PhD in Atmospheric or Climate Sciences or relevant/related fields, and that candidates have a record of publication, as well as evidence of the ability to conduct and fund an active research program consistent with career level. As part of duties and responsibilities, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to obtain extramural funding (i.e. previous experience; well articulated plan of securing extramural funding), and must presently have a funded research program that can be transferred to UCSD.
