Facilities Maintenance Mechanic (Plumber) Position Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic (Plumber) is responsible for performing general maintenance activities with a focus on plumbing systems and building equipment. This position supports the operations team in maintaining safe, functional, and efficient building operations while delivering excellent service to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and maintenance requiring a State of Michigan Plumbers license
  • Complete general maintenance tasks including light fixture maintenance, ballast replacement, and office furniture repairs
  • Install and maintain office fixtures including pictures, keyboard trays, and furniture systems
  • Assist with grounds maintenance and minor landscaping repairs
  • Execute special assignments including painting, locksmith work, tenant service requests, and specialized cleaning
  • Relocate office furniture, equipment, and materials as needed
  • Support other operational staff in equipment repair and maintenance activities
  • Maintain and organize accurate records of completed work
  • Perform Maximo data entry and set up maintenance routes
  • Follow safety protocols for handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials
  • Attend required safety training and adhere to all safety policies
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Required Qualifications
  • Valid State of Michigan Plumbers license
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Demonstrated experience in general facilities maintenance and repair
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work in various environments including outdoors, mechanical rooms, and potentially extreme weather conditions
  • Willingness to work with exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, and electrical systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Maximo or similar maintenance management systems
  • Previous experience in commercial building maintenance
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and other building systems
  • Experience with safety procedures and hazardous materials handling
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Customer service orientation and effective communication skills
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, use hands, and communicate verbally
  • Frequently required to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and high voltage
  • Frequent exposure to wet conditions, heights, airborne particles, and weather elements
  • Occasional exposure to toxic chemicals, extreme temperatures, and vibration
  • Work environment is typically loud
