Position Overview

The Safety Manager will provide safety leadership to all departmental areas in De Pere Shipping Container Division. From a strategic business perspective, this position will collaborate with management, production teams, and other departments to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures. This role is pivotal in maintaining a safe working environment, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and ensuring that all training initiatives align with regulatory standards.


Responsibilities

The primary job responsibilities of the Safety Manager include:



  • Maintains compliance with applicable OSHA, other regulatory agencies and company specific safety programs and procedures
  • Stays current with rules and regulations which may affect the division and collaborates proactively with divisional leadership on the implementation strategy
  • Champions a culture of proactive safety excellence through ownership, engagement and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrates a collaborative working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Leads the development, maintenance, implementation, and annual review of safety policies and procedures
  • Oversee the reporting and investigations of any injuries, accidents and safety related issues
  • Manage the 'Good Catch' and 'Near Miss' programs to proactively mitigate injuries, accidents, and potential safety related issues
  • Provides recommendations and ensures proper follow-up and resolution of all safety concerns identified through assessments, inspections, incidents or other means
  • Proactively identifies safety-related issues and works together with divisional leadership and impacted employees to address
  • Conduct safety audits and develop sound recommendations for corrections by working collaboratively with affected departments or groups
  • Schedules and conducts safety training events and ensures that the training meets company and regulatory requirements, including new hire training and onboarding, required annual training, etc.
  • Leads the division's Safety Team and related activities to ensure a solid safety culture
  • Responsible for keeping records and metrics of safety-related incidents


Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have the following skills and experience:



  • Experience with creating training programs, conducting plant audits and assessments to identify regulatory improvement opportunities, ways to reduce potential injuries, and convey to site leadership
  • Proven record of successful safety programs reducing injuries, lost time, restricted days, reducing MOD and DART Rates year over year
  • Knowledge of worker's compensation injury reporting and case management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers
  • Experience with continuous improvement processes including LEAN, Six Sigma and 6S methods
  • Project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines or projects
  • Proven experience as a Safety Manager in a manufacturing environment or a similar role for a minimum of five years
  • Proficient experience training, leading, and managing safety teams and committees


Education

A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management or a related degree is required. In lieu of the specific related education, a combination of other related education and experience may be taken into consideration.
