This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive (San Diego, CA) and remote. Onsite 3 days a week.

This position has recently been accreted by UPTE TX union and will be a part of that union moving forward.

DESCRIPTION

A Network Engineer specializes in designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting an organization's computer networks-both hardware and software. They ensure reliable connectivity, optimize network performance, maintain security protocols, and support upgrades or expansions. Responsibilities include configuring routers, switches, and firewalls; monitoring network traffic; diagnosing outages; and collaborating with IT teams to align network capabilities with business needs. Specific skillsets should include expert level experience with Cisco Wireless platforms (C9800 Controllers), Cisco routing and switching protocols, Cisco Security tools (ISE - Trustsec/NAC), wireless surveys with Ekahau, Palo Alto firewall experience, tools to include Wireshark and syslog analysis expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine (9) years of experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of experience/training. Experience: Cisco networking technologies focusing on wireless, security, and networking.

  • Advanced knowledge of professional communications and network systems in the completion of diverse assignments.

  • Advanced knowledge of the practices and techniques of the voice and data field and the ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines.

  • Has highly developed problem solving skills to independently resolve issues using defined parameters and technical expertise.

  • Clearly understands the communications and network needs of the organization and has skills needed to address those needs.

  • In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze highly complex communication hardware and software systems for maintaining a real-time resource that impacts campus / medical center / OP-wide network users.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience working with network management systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, organize and analyze data in the completion of a variety of functional assignments.

  • Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills of unique issues and problems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Cisco Wireless certifications.

  • Ekahau wireless survey experience.

  • Cisco Security certifications (ISE).

  • Palo Alto Certifications.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $108,100 - $204,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $51.77 - $98.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
