DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Services (TES) department has an exciting opportunity for a Facilities & Space Information Management (FSIM) Drafter. This role is essential to maintaining the accuracy and quality of the university's extensive space management portfolio, which includes over 800 owned and leased buildings, nearly 2,000 AutoCAD (.dwg) files, and more than 25 million square feet of space.

The FSIM Drafter will apply professional knowledge of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) to update and manage space data, floor plans, and technical documentation. This work directly supports UC San Diego's ability to effectively plan, utilize, and report on campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit and maintain architectural floor plans in AutoCAD (.dwg) and update space data in the campus enterprise system (IBM Tririga).

  • Analyze space data for completeness, integrity, and accuracy; recommend improvements to data quality and validation processes.

  • Prepare space management floor plans from construction models for use in system Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) processes.

  • Ensure all CAD files align with established standards (layering, fonts, colors, and naming conventions).

  • Conduct facilities data field verification, either directly or by coordinating with others.

  • Communicate updates and changes to stakeholders, helping to manage expectations and ensure alignment with CAD/space data protocols.

  • Support related facilities information management activities, including ad hoc analysis and data gathering.

  • Anticipated duration: 12 months
  • Compensation: $34.29 - $38.31 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
  • Location: Hybrid / remote work arrangement requiring 3 days on-site per week. On-site work will be near UC San Diego's main campus in La Jolla.
  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00 - 4:30 PM.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, real estate, urban studies, planning, or related area (and/or equivalent experience/training).

  • 2 years of experience architectural building modeling/computer drafting, including knowledge of commonly used construction concepts, practices, and procedures, like preparation of Bid Sets, 100% CD, Permit Sets, Record Drawings, and/or As-Builts.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD.

  • Basic understanding of CAD building floor plan conventions, standards, and layer management.

  • Valid driver's license, vehicle, and auto insurance.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with enterprise asset management or space management software. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to respond to customer queries in a timely and accurate manner including ability to identify customer needs and provide technical support via video, phone, email or in person. (Preferred)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Background check required.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation, as the position requires travel to off-site locations approximately 1% of the time (typically 2-3 times a year).
