What this job involves -

We are seeking an experienced Stationary Steam Engineer to join our facilities management team to operate and monitor critical building systems in our central utility plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment to maintain optimal building comfort and operational efficiency. This position primary covers night's or 3rd shift.

Your day to day: Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Monitoring
  • Monitor and operate high-pressure boilers, steam systems, and related safety equipment
  • Operate and maintain chiller systems, cooling towers, and associated pumps
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and performance monitoring
  • Monitor computerized building management systems (BMS) and control panels
  • Perform start-up and shutdown procedures for all utility plant equipment
  • Maintain proper water treatment and chemical levels
Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to scheduled protocols
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly equipment checks and log readings
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and equipment records
  • Respond to emergency situations and equipment alarms
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safety protocols
System Optimization
  • Monitor energy consumption and identify efficiency opportunities
  • Adjust equipment operations to optimize performance and reduce costs
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and contractors as needed

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ohio Stationary Steam Engineer license
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience operating boiler and chiller systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on equipment experience
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, steam, and hydronic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms with varying temperatures
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity for operating controls and performing maintenance tasks
Work Environment
  • Central utility plant environment with exposure to mechanical equipment
  • Rotating shifts may be required including weekends and holidays
  • On-call availability for emergency situations
  • May require work in various weather conditions for outdoor equipment
