Now, we're entering a new phase of growth and are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to contribute to the next wave of system and tool development for our upcoming product lines. The ideal candidate will thrive working in an innovative and fast-paced work environment, have excellent critical thinking skills, and will play a pivotal role in the expansion of the Mechanical Engineering team at PDW as we transition products from concept into mass production.

What You'll Do

  • Assist engineers in the design, assembly, and testing of mechanical components, systems, and prototypes.
  • Perform precision fitting, alignment, and adjustment of mechanical parts.
  • Conduct functional and quality testing to ensure assemblies meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues during and after assembly.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to identify design or process improvements.
  • Perform measurements, calibrations, and quality checks using precision instruments.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and specialized assembly equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, R&D, quality assurance) to solve technical challenges.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a mechanical technician role, preferably in manufacturing, engineering services, or product development.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and fastener techniques.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and troubleshooting mechanical issues with the .
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality mindset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong interdisciplinary skills across other engineering departments.

Preferred

  • Experience in UAV aircraft, robotics development, and/or hobby drones.
  • Working experience with 3D printing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with CAM/CNC processes.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift / carry up to 50 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard machine shop equipment as well as standard office equipment.Must be physically capable of tolerating loud noise, heat, cold, dust, or chemicals (with PPE).

Work Environment

This position typically operates in a standard office setting and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard office equipment and may involve exposure to loud noise, heat, cold, dust, or chemicals (with PPE) and may require occasional travel to test sites/customer locations/supplier facilities. This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities. Standard works hours for this position are 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional overtime as operational needs demand.
