Job Description:

Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated experienced Physician Assistant II or ACNP, RNFA to join our specialty Cardiac Surgery OR team. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is passionate about providing exceptional patient care and is looking to balance work with personal commitments.



Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled OR physician assistant/RNFA to join our cardiac surgery OR team. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to partner with cardiac surgeons and OR Nursing staff.



  • Recent graduates: Candidates with less than one year of experience who have completed an accredited cardiac surgery PA residency/fellowship program will be considered.
  • Experienced candidates: Minimum of two years of direct surgical assistant (or equivalent) experience in cardiac surgery.
  • Clinical competence: Demonstrated strong understanding of hemodynamic principles relevant to cardiac patients, including the ability to assess these parameters accurately and communicate findings clearly and promptly to the appropriate clinical team members.



Schedule:



  • Four 10-hour clinical daytime shifts/week


  • On-call requirement during non-routine working hours to assist attending physicians in urgent and emergency procedures



Responsibilities:



  • Assist cardiothoracic surgeons during surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair/replacement, and other complex cardiac surgeries
  • Perform tissue handling including making incisions, retracting, dissecting, tying, ligating, stapling, suturing and providing hemostasis
  • Perform chest closure, including chest wires when indicated. Routinely closes the leg and chest soft tissue layers. Assists in transporting the patient from the O.R. to the CVSICU/ PACU
  • Performs endoscopic or open harvesting of the saphenous vein during coronary artery bypass procedures and preparation of the vein for bypass
  • Performs endoscopic or open harvesting of the radial artery during coronary artery bypass procedures and prepares radial artery for bypass
  • First or second assisting with cannulation, graft anastomosis, valve placement, decannulation, femoral access catheters (including IABP) or any other task of open-heart procedures



Requirements:



  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Masters or Doctorate in Nursing, Acute Care NP.
  • For Acute Care NP, certified as an RNFA.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA).


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.


  • Cardiac Surgery OR experience, at least 2 years, required. Proficiency in performing endovascular vein harvest is required.

Salary Range: Minimum 61.54/hour - Maximum 95.39/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
