Senior Property Accountant - JLL

What this job involves:

Join JLL's Client Accounting Services team in Westmont, IL as a Senior Property Accountant where you'll play a critical role in delivering exceptional financial accounting services for our real estate portfolio clients. This position combines technical accounting expertise with client relationship management, as you'll prepare comprehensive financial statements, oversee audit processes, and serve as a trusted advisor to both internal teams and external clients. You'll be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance that JLL clients expect. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse property types and contribute directly to JLL's reputation for excellence in real estate financial services.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly property financial statements for assigned portfolio, ensuring all client deadlines are consistently met while maintaining quality standards
  • Execute comprehensive financial reporting processes including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation within established controls and client requirements
  • Coordinate and oversee internal and external audit processes, working cross-functionally with various departments to ensure audit readiness and compliance
  • Manage accounts payable workflows by reviewing invoice coding and approvals, ensuring adherence to established internal controls and client-specific procedures
  • Serve as primary accounting resource for property management teams, responding to technical questions and coordinating accounting procedures across sites
  • Support annual budget preparation by compiling key assumptions, reviewing capital budget information, and ensuring accurate data entry into accounting systems
  • Lead year-end reconciliation processes including preparation, calculation, and review of adjustments to ensure timely and accurate billing per lease requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on real estate accounting experience with demonstrated knowledge of CAM (Common Area Maintenance) calculations and FASB lease accounting standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis capabilities
  • Experience with real estate-specific accounting software, preferably MRI or Yardi property management systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accounting professionals
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certification or progress toward certification
  • Microsoft Access database knowledge and experience with data manipulation and reporting
  • Previous experience in a client services or public accounting environment * Knowledge of additional real estate accounting software platforms beyond MRI/Yardi
  • Understanding of commercial lease structures and revenue recognition principles
  • Experience with financial statement audits and working with external auditors
  • Familiarity with cash management processes and loan servicing requirements

Estimated compensation for this position:

82,650.00 - 97,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
