Quality Control Technician - JLL

What this job involves:

Quality Control Technicians ensure products, services, and processes meet established standards through systematic inspection, testing, and documentation while conducting detailed examinations using various testing equipment and measurement tools. The role involves performing statistical analysis, maintaining accurate test result records, preparing comprehensive compliance reports, and collaborating with production teams, engineers, and management to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions. Essential qualifications include strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, knowledge of quality control methodologies and industry standards, with the position playing a critical role in maintaining customer satisfaction, reducing waste, and ensuring products meet safety and performance requirements. Work environments include both indoor and outdoor settings across all climate conditions, requiring extended exposure to extreme temperatures while working on rooftops of tall buildings and in various weather conditions. Inspectors frequently work in challenging spaces including cramped areas, hot or cold attic spaces, low-clearance zones requiring stooped or crouched positioning, and surfaces that may be oily, wet, or dusty. Temperature exposure involves sudden climate changes when inspecting refrigerated equipment such as walk-in coolers and freezers, along with exposure to moving machinery parts around HVAC units, compressors, and exhaust fan assemblies. Emergency response availability may require off-hours work including weekends and holidays, with limited assignments in asbestos-containing areas where company-provided training and protective equipment are mandatory.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • A Quality Control Technician in this role implements comprehensive quality control programs to achieve project-level objectives and fulfill contractual obligations while serving as the primary interface with Contracting Officers and their Representatives who evaluate contract performance. The position involves assisting with the preparation, editing, and issuance of Quality Control Plan revisions while ensuring scheduled and random inspections are conducted with proper deficiency reporting and documentation procedures.
  • The technician monitors Federal Fleet Services and subcontractor personnel to verify that procedural changes and method improvements required for enhanced performance are properly implemented and functioning effectively. Responsibilities include conducting thorough audits, surveys, studies, spot-checks, and follow-up inspections of functions, work processes, equipment, facilities, and records to maintain quality standards and compliance requirements.
  • Documentation duties encompass identifying and recording discrepancies discovered during inspections, submitting formal correspondence to supervisory personnel for corrective action through Performance Deficiency Reports, and assisting with Quality Control Plan training for leads, supervisors, and management personnel. The role requires enforcing effective and timely corrective actions while minimizing problem recurrence and maintaining operational excellence.
  • Investigation responsibilities include handling customer complaints, Contract Discrepancy Reports, Performance Assessment Worksheets, implementing required corrective actions, conducting follow-up assessments to determine action effectiveness, and assisting with documentation submission to the Contracting Officer's Representative in accordance with Navy regulations.
  • Technical analysis involves participating in fact-finding groups to investigate quality levels and defect causes, utilizing technical data including service manuals and blueprints to determine appropriate inspection methods, and using Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics and safety requirements.
  • Administrative duties require completing accurate daily timesheets and maintaining compliance with Employee Handbook provisions while performing additional assigned duties that support overall quality control objectives and contract performance standards.
  • The position plays a critical role in ensuring contract compliance, maintaining quality standards, facilitating continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting effective communication between all stakeholders involved in project execution and performance evaluation.

Required Qualifications:

  • This Quality Control Technician position requires a minimum of two to five years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following trade areas: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Carpentry, Masonry, or other Construction/Structural trades to ensure comprehensive understanding of facility systems and construction processes.
  • Essential qualifications include basic knowledge of quality control concepts, fundamental math skills, practical measurement abilities, and understanding of technical documentation such as service manuals and blueprints to effectively determine appropriate inspection methods and procedures.
  • Technical competencies must encompass experience with various computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and email programs along with operation of standard office equipment and accurate data entry skills for proper documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Communication excellence requires exceptional written and verbal skills to effectively interface with contracting officers, supervisory personnel, and various stakeholders while preparing formal reports, correspondence, and training materials as part of quality control responsibilities.
  • Base Operating Services contract experience is considered advantageous for understanding the specific requirements and procedures associated with government contracting and performance evaluation standards.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift, carry, and handle inspection tools and equipment while working in cramped, inconvenient surroundings that may require equipment manipulation in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Work conditions require frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and maintaining uncomfortable positions for brief periods while ascending and descending various types of ladders up to thirty-five feet in height and performing visual inspections from ladders, scaffolding, or platforms where system components may be located in hard-to-reach areas.
